AN IMPORTANT NEW GUINEA CEREMONIAL NECKLACE

P717
An outstanding and exemplary tribal art shell ornament of vintage age.  Here is a primitive yet powerful necklace cosisting of cut cowry shells (Cypraea moneta) attached to intricate fiber cordage loops.  The fine collar is further embellished with six great pendants of giant conus and cowry shells.  Two of the shells were made into bells by enhancing them with long tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus spp.) teeth as clappers.  The ensemble has a beautiful patina from years of wear.  The professional metal display stand is included.  The necklace measures 23 inches long.  $ 900.00
