Here is an old Asmat feathered hunting basket from Irian Jaya (Dutch New Guinea). The basket is in the shape of a flattened cylinder and has a fine herringbone weave. It shows good useage and is in excellent condition with only a couple of feathers apparently missing. There is a decorative applique design on front face. Note the massive strands of Job's tears seeds strung on fine, twisted plant fiber. The long feathers are suspended at the ends of hard, black cylindrical sticks. Collected in the late 1960's. 10" high X 9" wide. SOLD
