JIVARO INDIAN HEADHUNTING CANTEEN
P705

A rare and important Shuar Jivaro artifact collected between 1948 and the mid-1950's by a German adventurer on the Rio Pastaza in the Pastaza Province of eastern Ecuador.  This is a painted gourd embellished with thick tar and "magic" red jungle beans around the neck.  The gourd served as a warrior's canteen on headhunting raids.  Two large bizarre figures are painted on the body of the canteen.  This is an extremely rare piece of tribal art in superb condition.  It measures 11 inches tall and is about 3  1 / 2 inches in diameter.
See eBay Sales.

A BEAUTIFUL OLD QUECHUA INDIAN FLUTE
N657

An authentic vintage flute of Calcha Quechua origin with a beautiful patina.  The instrument is made from a thick cane that was split at the proximal end during manufacture.  The mouthpiece is a hand carved piece of hardwood and the entire flute was wrapped with thick sinew in 12 places although one of the wrappings is missing.  Notes can still be played.  The initials “F C” are crudely carved near the top of the flute.  This is an old musical instrument and as a work of art, displays beautifully.   It measures 18 1/4 inches long and is 1 inch in diameter.  SOLD.
